Continuing my mini-series on what equipment I use and carry in my bag, I introduce my mega lens. I’m pretty sure I have a sore muscle in my upper arm from using this lens at this past weekend’s wedding, it’s so heavy. But it’s worth its weight in gold. Ceremony shots were next impossible before I started using this lens.
What is amazing about this lens is that you can zoom and still have a fixed aperature at 2.8! My primary lens that I use about 90% of the time is my 50mm 1.4. And although I love this prime lens because of the wide open aperature, a 50mm just isn’t practical for a wedding ceremony. Introducing Canon’s 70-200mm 2.8L IS USM…
This past weekends ceremony was at Olive Baptist Church, which seats over 3,000 people, and having a good zoom lens was imperative. Here are two shots I took without moving where I stood, but simply zoomed in with this lens. I’ve included the meta data on the photos so you can see that while shooting in manual mode, I changed nothing between the two pictures.
This first picture is zoomed at 70mm
This picture is zoomed at 200mm
Have a Fabulous Tuesday!
