What is a FUSION Video?!

We are super excited to tell you about these amazing FUSION videos that we have been doing. If you don’t know what it means yet, don’t worry, I didn’t really know what it meant either until just a few short months ago.

Basically a FUSION video is a photography slideshow with videography clips added. We know that a lot of brides do not hire videographers or cinematographers, but is this a great alternative to still document the “movement” of the day with the amazing photos to accompany.

Here’s our most recent FUSION video from Alicia + Brent’s Wedding at the Cappella Court Gardens in Carrolton, TX.

Deal!!!

You can take the photos and video you already have and make one. You don’t have to redo the whole wedding.

Tis true..that would require video knowledge, computer knowledge, photo knowledge…I don’t do any of that :)….my dad still loses it everytime we watch our video and see your lovely face at the end saying those lovely things :)

Tips for a Successful Bridal Session

Have you heard us mention before how we just LOVE bridal sesions???!!! Both of us are from the north (Jeremy = Illinois, and Kristin = Pennsylvania) and we literally had never heard of doing a “bridal session.” Yes, engagement sessions are quite popular, but a whole photo-shoot of just the bride is foreign up north. Regardless, we just love it. There is something so simple and elegant about a bride in her dress.

So as the heat hopefully goes away in the coming months and portrait sessions resume, we wanted to give all you lovely brides out there a few tips on how to prepare for your bridal session!

1 – Hair and makeup should match the wedding day…i.e. hire a professional. We are not saying it needs to be the exact same as your wedding day, but relatively close. Most importantly, if you are planning on having a professional hair and makeup artist on your wedding day (which you should), you should also do the same for your bridal portraits. We cannot stress enough how important this is…these professionals are amazing at what they do and it makes the pictures even more gorgeous!

2 – Bring a bouquet. Again you want this to be similar to your wedding day. On your wedding day you will have a gorgeous bouquet and you should have one at your bridal session too. Of course, not every shot will have the flowers in it, but it’s a simple and easy way to add a little pop of color to the images.

3 – Location. Find a location that matches you and your wedding theme. If you are planning on displaying a huge canvas (which we of course recommend!!!) at your vintage themed wedding, you probably don’t want to have your bridal portraits done in the Arts District in Dallas (very modern). In the image below, Christina chose to do her bridals on TWU’s campus, her alma mater.

4 – Accessories. Wear jewelry and accessories that you are planning on wearing for your wedding. It could also be fun to wear extra accessories. We have had brides bring strands of pearls before and it looks amazing! Don’t be afraid to think outside the box.

5 – Details. It’s okay at bridal portraits to bring along props that you may or may not typically use on your wedding day. For example, Bethany brought this calendar with her to her bridal session and we set the date to her wedding date. Furniture and decorations are also an easy way to add diversity to your portrait images. You can rent some amazing Vintage Furniture and other items from Rent My Dust, located here in DFW.

6 – Time of Day. We always photograph at sunset because it provides the most beautiful lighting. Ever.

7 – Be you! Take a deep breath and relax. Let us worry about the little details of the images and we just want you to come and have fun!

We hope this helps you plan for your bridal session and we can’t wait to reveal more of these gorgeous sessions in the months to come!!!

Happy Monday!

Celebrating 3 Years | A Royal Surprise

Well today is our three year anniversary. As I think back to when Kristin and I first met, it’s really hard for me to remember life without her. We met my second (her third) year of college. We graduated together. Then got married. Then we went to grad school together. Graduated from that too. Started our own business together. Then moved across the country to TX. I started grad school yet again. We had our first child last November. It almost feels like life before “us” was when I was a wee little lad.

We decided to celebrate our 3 year anniversary last night together. Since we have moved here to DFW Kristin has probably mentioned to me five or six times that she’s never been to Medieval Times. We’ve passed the castle on I-35 numerous times in Dallas but never took the time to go. So I knew I had to be cunning with the surprise.

You see, Kristin is REALLY good at figuring out surprises. Actually, it’s more like she won’t stop asking questions until you answer her. Even though I don’t think I’m giving her any clues by answering her non-stop questions, somehow she always seems to put it all together, and then when the secret is revealed she goes “oh good, I was hoping this was it!”

Well yesterday was different. I kept my mouth shut (for those of you know me, you can now pick your jaw up off the floor). I also decided to take an alternative route to the Castle to confuse her even more. It worked!!! The whole time Kristin was asking “where are we?” “How far is it?”

Then my worst fear is when we are approaching the destination but we aren’t officially there yet. Fortunately Kristin was looking at all the pretty buildings our her window and the castle was out my window to the left. So I quickly rounded the corner and when we pulled in to the parking lot…..SUCCESS! She was surprised. I was so happy. She was so happy. Our faces matched those of all the little kiddos piling in! Haha.

Well we actually spent the night away from our cameras. It was weird at first. We took a few pics with our iPhones…but they’re kinda ugh. So of course we dressed up like royalty…let some high schooler using a Nikon camera with a kit lens and two cheap soft-boxes take our picture (insert laughter). Right before the picture, I told Kristin “Hey I’m not smiling.” She said, “ok.” So here’s a pic with our iPhone of the pring………..

Kristin,

Thanks for being my best friend and my true love. Life without you is not life at all. I love you so much…

FEATURED :: Done Brilliantly :: Dallas Wedding Photographers

A few months ago we decided it was time to try to get our work featured on other wedding blogs. It’s a great way to increase SEO and our clients love too when their session gets featured. We felt like we have to spend hours and hours resizing and watermarking images to different specs for each wedding blog…so we subscribed to Two Bright Lights. TBL allows us to upload the high res images and then submit the session or wedding to a variety of publishers, one at a time. If the first publisher rejects the submission we can re-submit it to a different publisher in just a minute. Amazing!!!

We are excited to pronounce Alyssa + Blake’s engagement session has been featured! TBL has their own blog called Done Brilliantly and the graciously featured this engagement session just a few weeks ago ;)

Our Top Dallas Fort Worth Wedding Venues

We know and realize that the one thing that probably gets booked before the photographer is the venue. And really, here in DFW venues can book up quick, especially the good ones. We hope that if you are still searching for the perfect venue that maybe our selections will help you find the one that is perfect for you and your style.

(1) – The Orchard

We had the amazing privilege to photograph Alyssa + Blake’s wedding at the Orchard. This venue is relatively new and in all honesty…drop…dead…gorgeous!!! There are acres upon acres of prettiness, and it’s nestled just outside northern Fort Worth. We love the outdoor ceremony spot, the gorgeous lighting at the reception, and most of all…the end opportunities for gorgeous portraits!

 (2) The Hickory Street Annex

We love this venue. Between the exposed brick and the huge windows that let in the most gorgeous light ever…it’s a win!!! There is plenty of space both inside and outside for portraits and it is conveniently located just south of downtown Dallas. Here are a few images from a recent engagement session we shot there with Kayla + Evan.

(3) T&P Lofts – Waiting Room

What we love about the T&P Lofts is that it is very unique. It feels like a huge train station and a ballroom all at the same time. It’s like you’re standing in the middle of Grand Central station with concrete walls and huge chandeleers all around. The lighting was gorgeous for Laura + Shawn’s wedding this past April…

We hope this helps as you continue to plan your own wedding. More of our favorite vendors will come in the following weeks and months so be sure to check back ;)

Happy Tuesday!
