Staying Organized and Doing What Works

There are so many options for organization these days, you can keep an online calendar, or have a calendar on your desktop. You can choose from a million and one apps to download on your iPad or iPhone, or……you can use an old fashioned paper calendar and a spiral bound notebook.

Jeremy and I are iPhone people, we always have them handy, and love to use them to update social media and stay in touch with friends, family, and our fabulous clients.

In college I always used a good old fashioned paper calendar to list my assignments and keep track of my many responsibilities and To Do lists. When I got my iPhone, it seemed like a much cooler way to do things. I planned of typing everything into iCal and getting updates for every session, task, and perhaps even a reminder to have lunch on busy days. The thing was, it just didn’t work for us. We would forget to enter things, and we just didn’t feel like it was a good way for us to keep our daily calendar.

Sooooo…we decided to go back to doing things the old fashioned way and bought ourselves a paper calendar and some spiral notebooks, and we gave up trying to be tech saavy in this area.

The moral of the story…it is so easy to get caught up in doing things the way everyone else is doing them and not take much time to think about what is working for you and your business. This is something that Jeremy have talked about often. We LOVE learning from the leaders in the industry and hearing what is working in their businesses, but at the end of the day education can not replace getting out there and doing it. Another awesome photographer may have an awesome system with online to do lists and calendar apps, but it just isn’t what works for us…..and that is ok! Learn from others and then implement what works for you!

I live for my to-do lists…but I get stuff done much better when it’s a list on paper. I carry a notebook with me for just that reason. Not only for lists but also for writing random stuff down so I don’t forget.

Kristin Schmucker

We totally agree!

I’d lose my head if it wasn’t for lists. And I also do better with them on a piece of paper.

There are More Important Things than Perfect

I have always been a perfectionist, since I can remember I have been very set on doing things perfectly. Every detail in place and giving my very best at everything. I did pretty good at this for the most part up until about a year ago. When I had Stella, I was forced to realize that sometimes there are more important things in life than perfect. Things changed and all of a sudden I realized that you can not get so busy that you forget to live. The dishes will still be there when I am finished spending time with God, the laundry will still need to be put away when I am done cuddling with my little girl, and the business of life will still be there if I stop to enjoy the little moments.

It sounds so much easier when it is typed up, but in reality it is a daily struggle between perfect and wonderful.

Fabulous Wedding Shoes

It seems like there is a new wedding trend just about every day, some of them are fabulous and some of them are a little weird. But, one of my favorite trends is awesome wedding shoes. Sometimes, they are bright colors that match the wedding theme and other times they are just decked out with bling! Here are a few pairs of awesome shoes that we have shot recently…I think you will see why I am in LOVE.

I’m in love with the second picture, the white wedding shoes! Looks so comfy.. =)

For Photographers: The Shootsac

People often ask what kind of camera bags we use for shooting. We both love and shoot with a Shootsac. The Shootsac is not actually a camera bag, it is a lens bag.We can keep all of our lenses inside the Shootsac without their caps which makes switching lenses on a wedding day super fast.  It is made of commercial grade, light weight  neoprene which is the material that scuba divers wetsuits are made of. It is light, durable, and it conforms to your body, so that it is not bumping into things! I really can not even imagine what I would do without my Shootsac on a wedding day.

The other awesome thing about the Shootsac is that it is black, but you can add super cute covers to it. Jeremy just keeps his black, but mine has an adorable damask cover. How awesome is that!

Not only are these bags awesome, but they are durable. We have been using ours for over two years and they are still going strong.

So if you are looking for a new bag, I highly suggest adding a Shootsac to your Christmas list!

Magnolia Hotel Wedding in Dallas | Kayla + Evan

Kayla and Evan are two of the sweetest people you could meet. They met in the 4th grade when they lived just a block away from each other in the small town they grew up in. They kept in touch as they were growing up, but it wasn’t until college that their relationship changed and they realized they were meant to be together. They can’t help but smile when they are together and it is easy for anyone to see that they are the perfect match for each other.

Their wedding was a perfect reflection of them. It was very modern and chic as it was hosted just outside the Magnolia Hotel with the Dallas skyline as a backdrop. It was a little chilly (high of 55) but it sure beats the 110 degree summer heat ;)

Kayla + Evan also did a First Look for themselves. It was a very special moment for the two of them and we were able to get ALL pictures done before the ceremony which takes away a lot of stress
