Learning from Netflix

If you have read our blog for a while you know that it is no secret that we love Netflix. We are always looking for a new series to start watching. We love action and are kinda suckers for a bit of reality tv, I like documentaries, and of course we love anything weddings like Say Yes to the Dress. Jeremy recently stumbled on a great show that has even helped get us thinking about new things for our business. We enjoyed every episode of The Mentor which is a great show that takes small business owners and has them mentored by a CEO of a large corporation. Though not everything applied to us, we are always amazed at how we learn things everywhere that we can incorporate into our business. We really love finding ways to serve our clients better, and we are thrilled that this show is available to learn from. And, don’t worry….it isn’t boring, we loved learning about both the small business and learning more about the larger companies as well!

Tips for Brides: Professional Wedding Makeup

Some brides are all about makeup and can’t even imagine letting someone else do their makeup…but if you are like a lot of girls, you feel extra dolled up when someone else does your makeup. Here are some things to think about if you are deciding whether you should hire a professional or DIY your wedding makeup!

1. It is easy to look washed out in a white dress, and since that it probably what you will be wearing, you want to make sure that your makeup looks like “enough”, without being crazy, and over the top. Makeup artists are wonderful at giving you the color that you need without going too far.

2. It is going to be a long day, and you want your makeup to look just as fabulous during your sparkler exit as it did when you walked down the aisle. Professional makeup lasts! You don’t want to worry about smudging or smearing!

3. Falsies….they look amazing in pictures, but they take practice to do it yourself.

4. Professional makeup is amazing, because makeup artists are masters at making you look amazing. They know exactly how to emphasize bone structure and emphasizes your most amazing features.

5. There are a lot of things going on the day of your wedding, getting your makeup professionally done gives you a chance to sit down and relax, without stressing!

Rachel + Conner After Session | Trinity Park Fort Worth

Well we just posted Rachel and Conner’s gorgeous wedding last Friday! Since they both live long-distance from us here in Fort Worth, we decided instead of doing the traditional “engagement pictures” we would do an After Session instead. It was super fun and super early! Yes…this was at sunrise. We usually only photograph at sunrise or sunset to obtain the best lighting and this was perfect. Trinity Park in Fort Worth gave us a beautiful backdrop for this session. Rachel and Conner – thank you again for allowing to capture and document your love…XOXO, Jeremy & Kristin.

Who do we Follow?

We love photography and we love following the work of some of our favorite photographers, and keeping up with their blogs and recent work. There are so many amazing photographers out there, so this is in no way a comprehensive list. These are just the photographers that have had an impact on us, that we have learned from and that we just love their work! You may notice that they are all very different, and we LOVE that. We appreciate different things about each one of them and think they are all fabulous. These are our favorites, please tell us who your favorites are!

Deidre Lynn – Deidre is at the top of the list because she is “our” photographer. She photographed our wedding, our family and all of our branding photos. She is AMAZING, and if you don’t know who she is, YOU SHOULD!

Jasmine Star – Jasmine’s blog was one of the first that we stumbled upon when we began our photography journey, and it is one that we love checking in on frequently. Her work is gorgeous and you can tell from her blog that she is just a fun person.

Zach & Jody – Zach and Jody’s style is different than ours, but it is just so cool. They put out a ton of education out there for photographers, and they are just super sweet and always looking to move the industry forward.

Katelyn James – When you get on Katelyn’s blog you will notice a few things, a lot of teal and a ton of gorgeous colorful images. Her photos are fabulous and fun, and she takes in our opinion the best detail shots around. We have learned a lot from her blog.

Justin & Mary – Justin and Mary’s blog is where we go when we want to see clean, classic, and timeless images. Their Black and White images are stunning. We love all that they write and the invaluable information for photographers on their blog.

Jose Villa – Swoon worthy film images that look like they came out of my dream…for real

Luke & Cat – We LOVE Luke and Cat. We “met” them online and hit it off, luckily we only live a few hours away so we have been able to get together for lunch and hopefully will be able to again soon. Amazing people and amazing photographers, they are busting into the film world and their stuff is just lovely.

Deborah Zoe – I connected with Deborah about a year ago through a mentoring session, and she is so sweet. Her images are stunning and she has the prettiest office. And, she is expecting a baby this year!

Alyse French – I stumbled upon Alyse’s blog a while ago and keep coming back to see her gorgeous images. She is super sweet and I love reading her adorable tweets and seeing her bulldog on my instagram feed.

Trevor Dayley – We heard of Trevor because he is a Showiteer, and have kept up with his work, he is such a servant to his clients and the man can take some fabulous ring shots.

Nancy Ray – I just love Nancy’s gorgeous southern images. Her images are so romantic, and since she is located in the south, everytime I read her blog I want to drink a glass of sweat tea.

These are some of our favorites, we would love to hear about who inspires you!

Here’s one of our recent “branding” pictures taken by Deidre!

From My Library: Grace for the Good Girl

I am going to start writing some blog posts to review some of the books that I have been reading lately. I have always loved to read, but in the past have gotten so busy that I did not have too much time to devote to reading as much as I would like. I have realized that it is so important and that I just need to make the time. I will review a variety of non-fiction, inspirational, and business books. If you have a recommendation that you think I would like, please share it with me. I am always looking for a new book to add to my list.

I love reading blogs and I had seen this book referenced on several blogs that I read frequently, so when I saw it in Lifeway, I decided that it was the next book on my list. I recently finished reading it and I really did love the book. The tagline on the cover of the book says “Letting go of the try hard life” and that is exactly what the book is about. Emily Freeman talks in the book about how easy it is to overwhelm yourself because you are always trying to live up to an impossible standard. She speaks of the amazing grace that God gives to us as His children and how we don’t need to waste our lives trying to be perfect, but instead rest in God’s grace despite our imperfection.

The book talks a lot about trusting in God, instead of in ourselves. I loved when she wrote: “My only option is to trust in the One who holds all things together, even when they fall apart. To trust even when it doesn’t feel true. To believe in safety even when I don’t feel safe. To set my mind on what is true, even when it feels foolish and naive.”

She also spoke about how we as women place so many conditions on ourselves. We place conditions on our happiness, such as: if only I could lose 5 pounds, if only I had more time, if only we made more money. She then so simply stated: “Jesus is the radical, absolutely complete, living answer to all our if-only’s and if-I-fould-justs. His unwavering, unchanging, unconditional love and acceptance of us is what we are really looking for.” I just love that.

Overall, the book was excellent and I would highly recommend it for every woman trying to live up to the standards that we set for ourselves.

Do you have a great book recommendation? Leave it in the comment box!
