Simplified Life

Life is good. God is good. I know that we are only a few months into 2013, but this has been such a good year. I have taken the time to really dig deep, and start living the life that I have always wanted. I have been so blessed to have an amazing God, a wonderful family, and my dream job that allows me to spend time with my family and never feels like “work”.  I mentioned last week that we will have a new series on the blog because of the amazing response I have gotten from blog readers, Facebook friends and instagram followers. The blog series will be called “Simplified Life”, because it is about life. It isn’t just about business, or photography, or being a bride, or a mommy, or small business owner. It is just about living life to the fullest, about making changes in your life and getting organized so you have time for the things you love.   I have realized the past few months that there are so many small things that we can do to transform our lives. To live the life we always imagined. This year instead of thinking about it or talking about it, go do it!

Some of the things that I am doing this year are: spending time in Scripture, journaling, encouraging others, blogging, drinking more water, loving on my husband, eating more fresh foods, living on a budget, and spending more time outside playing with Stella.

I am so excited to write posts that can be an encouragement, and maybe a small kick in the pants to get out there and live life to the fullest. I call it simplified life, because I have realize that as I organize, create systems and simplify my life from excess, I can enjoy the things that really matter to me. This means less stuff and things that waste my time, and more life with the people that I love.

What things do you want to actually do this year? Leave me a comment below and tell me what you want to stop thinking about and start doing!

Nice post. I’ve been having many of the same thoughts. Simplify and refocus. You’ve motivated me to stay on course. Thanks.

It is so exciting Kristin to see what God is doing in your life as you dig deep in His word and how He is using you to spur others on. You are brilliant and beautiful and a bright light and thankful you’re allowing your light to shine before men. For me what I’m doing is focusing on my mission statement which propels me into action; Making a difference in the lives of women and their families, internally, externally and eternally. I love seeing how God shows up through the day as I step off the bank and watch Him part the waters. Can’t wait to see you soon.

So excited to see you guys for more than a few hours this time!

Can’t wait to hear what you have to say! For me, clutter has always managed to give me anxiety, and I manage pretty well to keep it out of the main house, however, I do kind of have a dump room and a basement full of clutter that I want to get rid of, but I am so overwhelmed I’m not sure how to tackle it! Cheer me on. Remember the day when you could roller skate down there

I’m so interested in eating more fresh foods. We have a huge farmer’s market right down the road from us and I need to take advantage of it! Lovely post!

Love this! I agree that I have been inspired to do more this year, I’ve been eating healthier and another goal I have is to learn to use a sewing maching efficiently. Journaling and blogging, more time with The Lord. I’m working on them all!

You’ve been an encouragement to me on your journey into a deeper relationship with God and the Word. So thanks! That’s been one of my goals this year and I’m loving it as well. I want to be successful in my new business with Mary Kay, learning a step at a time how to manage my time and have balance between church/family/business. God’s been so good to us in 2013…can’t wait to see what the rest of it holds! :)

Our Random Life #24

The Jamba Juice addiction continues, come Thurday’s when I know that sale is on…I just can’t resist it. I am trying to convince myself that it is ok because we aren’t huge coffee drinkers. So I spend on smoothies less than the average Starbucks addict spends on Coffee. I know that isn’t the best line of reasoning, but it make me feel better. Alas, we were out of town this past week…far away from the nearest Jamba Juice.

In preperation for our trip, we made a trip to Target to pick up a few things. We left with a larger than expected bill, and a bag full of all kinds of random things. Please tell me I am not the only one that falls into the Target Trap..so many pretty things. I am list maker, but it seems like I always leave Target with at least one thing that wasn’t on my list.

We actually do enjoy roadtrips, but this one was extra long…about 28 hours of driving…each way…with a 15 month old. We were travelling to shoot a wedding in OH, but had to stop to see family! Let me tell you, Stella is the best kid ever. She was so good. We bought a DVD player for the backseat and it entertained her the whole time. So happy to be blessed with the best and most adorable little girl ever.

We got to bring home the little rocking chair that was my Mom’s when she was a little girl and then mine when I was a little girl. Now it is sitting in our living room for Stella to enjoy. She loves it, and it is so fun to have a little family heirloom for her to enjoy.

Grapevine Engagement Session | Natalie + Blake

Natalie and Blake are such a sweet couple with a great love story. They have known each other just about all of their lives since they grew up in the same neighborhood. It wasn’t until later that their relationship blossomed into something more. They are absolutely precious together. The way they look at each other combined with Natalie’s great sense of style, and gorgeous light are just a few of the things that make this session fabulous.

We are so excited for their wedding this summer, and I am sure you will see why when you see how adorable these two are!

Making Time To Grow | 12 in 12

Let’s be real..owning a business, being a mom and wife, blogging daily, spending time with The Lord, Cooking Dinner, Laundry, Church events, etc…life is kind of crazy. I have always loved to learn, and reading has been one of my favorite things for as long as I can remember. But, with a business and a family, it kind of went on the back burner. Reading is so important though, it is key to continuing to grow and move forward in business and life. The ability to learn from other successful people that have gone before is so valuable to growth. As you know, I am really big on setting goals..and writing them down. So this year, I committed to reading 12 books in 12 months. Some will be business, others inspirational, or perhaps parenting related, but I am committed to finding books that will teach me something valuable for business or life.

I know it is already March, but remember that there is nothing magical about January. I would love for you to join me in spending time learning and growing! These are the books I have read already and they have been awesome! I would love to hear your recommendations for great books! Leave me a comment below to tell me something great you have read recently!

Tips for Brides | What if I Don”t Want to Do a First Look?

We have blogged about how much we LOVE when couples choose to have a first look and we really do. They tend to give an amazing relaxed atmosphere that is totally centered on the couple, and we love that. However, we never want our couples to feel pressured to do a first look if it is not something that they want, though we would love for them to consider it.

So we often get a question from our couples about what they should do if they do not choose a first look? If you choose not to have a first look on your wedding day there are just a few things to keep in mind, and we will be sure to work with you through the process.

The main thing to think about is when sunset is, and what time your ceremony will take place. If you are not wanting to do a first look, you will have to plan a ceremony time that will leave us plenty of natural light after the ceremony ends to capture all of the lovely images that you are wanting from your wedding day. There will be family pictures, bridal party pictures, and the portraits of the two of you. We want to make sure that you have lots of time to get all the gorgeous images that will be going in your album.

If you decide against the first look there will be some time before you get to the reception, it is a great idea to have a cocktail hour of some kind so that your guests will be occupied while the photos are being taken. If there is food or drinks…guests will be happy!

Especially if you are not doing the first look, it is important to let your family that will be in family pictures know where they should be. If they don’t know where to be we often loose Grandma, who has slipped off to the reception for a cocktail. :) It is a good idea to let them know ahead of time as well as have the officiant announce where they should be at the end of the ceremony.

Though we love when couples choose the first look, it is absolutely possible to choose not to do one as long as you plan well!

GREAT BLOG FOR MY BRIDES!

Lauren

Great tips and a great topic!! I’d also add to do as much bridal party as possible beforehand to free up time for those romantic photos!
