Daughters of Grace Online Study!

Beginning on September 8th we will be hosting an online Bible Study of Daughters of Grace, our new study on the Women of the Bible and the God of Grace! I am so excited about this study and would love for you to join us. Each day we will work through the assigned reading and discuss it in the private Facebook group! You can also post on instagram and use the hashtag #lampandlight and share your thoughts with us!

The Facebook group is a great place to connect with other women and find community around God’s Word!

So what is this study about??? This study  looks at the lives of 28 women of the Bible, and most importantly it seeks to know better their amazing God. It focusses on God’s faithfulness and steadfast love for His people and particularly for His daughters. The study digs into Scripture about the lives of some well known women, and also some that we don’t usually hear much about. Ultimately, it shows how God uses ordinary women that love Him for extraordinary things.

Now Accepting Submissions for Be Still Magazine!!!

Today we launched the first issue of Be Still Magazine and I am so excited for this project. My goal in creating this magazine was for it to be beautiful and purposeful. I wanted it to be a different kind of magazine…one that you open up with your Bible, and one that is filled with beauty, encouragement, and truth. The articles are meant to encourage, teach, and point women to the Lord. Our amazing team worked hard on this project and I am so thrilled with the result.

I am also thrilled to announce that we are ready to begin accepting your submissions for future issues! If you feel that the Lord has given you a message to share, we would love for you to share it with our readers.

We will be accepting submissions for articles, photography, poetry, artwork, and more to be featured in future issues of the magazine.

Submitting is simple! Email your submission to

Typical article submissions should be between 1000-2000 words, but we are open to all types of submissions regardless of length. If your article is selected, we will contact you.

We are looking for articles and devotionals on a variety of topics similar to those seen in our first issue. Articles on Christians living, relationships, prayer, quiet time, and articles focusing on God’s character, etc. are just a sampling of what we are looking for. Contributors whose articles are chosen will receive a complementary copy of the magazine.

We include a selection of high quality photography in our magazines, often with Scripture overlaid on the photos. Photos include lifestyle shots, landscape, still life, nature, and we also publish lots of photos of women. Photos must be 350 dpi, high-resolution photos.

We also would love to feature the work of Christian artists. Paintings, graphic design, hand lettering, etc. will all be considered.

Due to the volume of submissions, we will not be able to respond to each one. It will also take us several weeks to read through and select content for upcoming issues. We may even contact you in a few months if we feel your article or content would be the perfect fit for a future issue.

We are now accepting submissions for the Spring issue.

By submitting your article, you are giving us permission to print it in an upcoming issue. Please include your name as you would like it to appear in the article.

Do you have submission guidelines we can go to? Thank you for launching this magazine.

Alison Lee

Natalia Drumm

Also curious as to if the published submissions are paid or not.

Denise Espinosa

When is the deadline

Laurie Brooks Endsley

I would love to know what you are looking for as far as photography. I would love to be a part of this!

Judith Nance

Thank you for taking this step of faith and putting out a product that supports women and their walk with the Lord. I will be interested in learning more about submission guidelines. My desire would be to submit down to earth things like devotions, short articles on prayer life, and encourage others who are struggling and are afraid to share this with others.
Blessings to all!

Choosing Joy and Clearing the Social Media Clutter

Social media…it has tremendous power for good, but it can also be a huge time sucker that steals away lots of time in the day, and more importantly our joy.

Aside from the fact that Facebook, Instagram, and other forms of social media can tend to steal time away from us doing big things that really matter, I have one other issue with it. A few months ago I made a huge effort to eliminate things that are negative from my life. I know it might sound straight from a cheesy self help book, but this has made a huge difference for me. I get easily distracted by negative things in my life. I think about them more than I should and tend to let them make me worry unnecessarily.

So here is my challenge to you, and if you will do it, it  will make a huge difference. Head over to Facebook and instagram, and clean up your feeds.

  • If someone is contantly negative, remove them from your feed.
  • If they post things that tear down others, remove them from your feed.
  • If you find yourself feeling jealousy when you read their posts, remove them from your feed
  • If you feel like you are in constant competition with them, remove them from your feed.
  • If you feel irritated by their posts, remove them from your feed.
  • If they do not point you to Jesus or encourage you, remove them from your feed.

This might seem silly to you, it did to me at first too. But, when I actually did it, I can’t even tell you how relieved I felt. Removing negativity from your life will have a profound effect on how much you can accomplish and how you feel. When we remove negative influences, we are free to fill our time and minds with the Lord, and with the joy that comes only from Him.

Clear the clutter, and make time for what really matters. Remove the things that distract your heart from the most important One, and fill your life and feed with people that point you to Jesus and turn your heart to praise.

Below I have posted a few verses on joy to remind you where our true Joy is found.

You make known to me the path of life;
    in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16:11

My lips will shout for joy,
    when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have redeemed.
Psalm 71:23

May all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you!
May those who love your salvation
    say evermore, “God is great!”
Psalm 70:4

Your words were found, and I ate them,
and your words became to me a joy
and the delight of my heart,
for I am called by your name,
Jeremiah 15:16

Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Psalms 51:12

For the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Nehemiah 8:10

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
Philippians 4:4

Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
John 16:24

I’ve just felt God’s prompting on this this morning… so thank you for the reassurance to do it. Time to clear the air in my world :)

Bonita Rose

I have done this and oh the peace it gives… xo bonitarose

Rachel Schultz

I just did this today! I personally struggle with comparing myself to “healthy” people or food/fitness accounts. Despite their platform of encouragement + information, they unintentionally make me feel like I’m not healthy enough, I’m not good enough, I’m not fit enough. Thank you so much for sharing those versus and reminding us where our joy comes from!! <3

This really does help & it is a great advice!

Joanne Gutierrez

Thank You Kristin!

Stefanie Hoffa Skokowski

Kristin, thank you for this beautiful reminder! I steadily remove negative people from my feed, but never thought to also remove people of whom I feel jealous or the need the compete with. Thank you for this eye opener!

Great post! <3 I ended up just having to delete my Facebook because of all the negative that was on my feed daily!

Kristen Alyse

Love reading these and looking down at my Joy bracelet from the August Surprise box!
